Bodegas Barbadillo, established in 1821 by Benigno Barbadillo and his cousin Manuel López Barbadillo, stands as a cornerstone of sherry production in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Their pioneering spirit led to the creation of “Pastora,” the first bottled Manzanilla, marking a significant milestone in sherry history.
Today, the bodega remains family-owned, now in its seventh generation, and oversees 500 hectares of vineyards in the Jerez Superior zone. With 17 aging cellars housing over 31,800 casks, Barbadillo masterfully blends tradition with innovation. Their flagship Manzanilla, “Solear,” aged under flor for an average of seven years, captures the essence of Sanlúcar’s coastal terroir.
Beyond Manzanilla, Barbadillo’s portfolio includes a range of sherries, brandies, and still wines, reflecting their commitment to quality and diversity. Visitors can explore this rich heritage at the Manzanilla Museum, located within the historic Bodega del Toro, offering insights into the art of sherry-making. Barbadillo’s enduring legacy and dedication to excellence continue to shape the narrative of Andalusian winemaking.
